My 1997 240 Dancer is in dry dock in my yard. I live in the north east. We had nearly 3" of rain the past few weeks. I had the boat covered with a tarp while I was working on it and the 22' tarp fell short at the bow and made a perfect chute for the rain water to run down from the windshield and also slope to the center from the railings and the tarp ended at the anchor locker hatch! So the anchor locker filled with water until it reached a level high enough to run down the forward bulkhead (where the mirror is), fill up the storage area under the forward cushion until that area overflowed and then the water ran across the cabin floor and filled the step well in front of the sink! WTF??? WHERE IS THE ANCHOR LOCKER DRAIN??? I do not see any drain holes in the locker. Did SR actually leave this critical drain off of my boat? Also, what are the two small chrome drain looking things next to the bow eye? On last thing, in case it matters, the batteries are disconected. Comments PLEASE! Thanks.... John

John - sorry to hear that - I'm sure that was not what you expected to see when you entered the cabin. I know how disheartening that type of "surprise" can be.

The "two chrome drain looking things are"... drains. What has likely happened is that crud (leaves, etc) has plugged the holes. Or possibly even the anchor rode. Every so often, it's good idea (I know... hindsight is 20/20) to check those and be sure they are clear. The chrome things cover the holes is such a way to help avoid water from splashing in while the boat is underway.

Maybe the drains are clogged as the chrome covers near the bow eye on my boat are the rope locker drains...

Well thanks to all who responded.... Upon closer examination of those two chrome covers near the bow eye, they are crushed FLAT! I took them off and sure enough, the holes under them were clogged solid shut! So I cleaned the holes out with a wire and air pressure and replaced the chrome covers. All is OK now. Water drains freely from the two holes. I'll be sure to keep an eye on them from now on! Thanks all...... John

I had a similiar experience a little while ago. I knew that there was water in my anchor locker because the rode was always wet and my cabin smelled musty. I jammed a screwdriver through the drain hole up into the locker. I had to punch through about 10 years worth of mud and clay that had solidified like concrete on the bottom of the locker. I got it cleaned out and painted with bilgecote. Now it looks nice and clean and the rode stays dry and the stank has left the cabin. Its a lot easier to clean out after I painted it. Now it wipes down or I'll give it a quick spray with a hose to clean it out. Just another item to clean and maintain.
