'08 29' Amberjack I searched the forms but didn't see that a fix was found. Did anyone have this problem & solved it. The line much of the time does not feed through the deck. I've moved the power lines out of the way, no help. I'm about to try the fabrick softner, but it also seems that the through the deck hole is fairly rough, is there a fix for this. Looks like it could use some kind of a fitting to smooth it would help, is there one?

There's many threads about cleaning the rope and replacing the spring tensioner - some are just a few days old and those are the typical fix. Now, if you're saying it's getting hung up on rough edges, then maybe you already found the problem? Is it actually getting hung up, or just guessing? You can smooth the roughest parts with a file or sandpaper and then paint it with epoxy.

Having same problem with my Quick/12 volt windlass...will buy and replace tensioner clip-spring first....30.00 part...

I had the same problem with our windlasss where the rode met the chain, the rode would bind up right after the chain fed into the windlass. I replaced the spring and and still had the same problem. I called imtra who sells the project 1000 which we have installed to order a new finger kit. The tech at imtra told me to soak the rode where it meets the chain in a bucket of fabric softener and place a screw driver through the rode at the last link on the chain. He said this would solve my problem. i though thats bs...t this will never work. so I did this and let it soak.
To my dismay it solved my problem the rode feeds Into the windlass without any problems.

The tech at imtra could of easily sold me a $100 finger kit, however his professionalism and knowledge did not go unnoticed and appreciated.

I have had this problem from day one off the show room floor. The dealer replaced the rode but never solved the problem. I have yet to try the fabric softener... will do though!

Guess I got the wrong guy at IMTRA. I was looking for a new spring, since my rode was slipping on the transition from rope to chain. He recommended I buy a new quad-braided line, and sent me a sample. Very nice stuff, but I tried the replacement spring first, which turned out to be a waste of $27.00. My remedy is to apply some pressure to the spring at the transition point (very carefully, of course). The quad-braid line might work for smoother feeding of the line though.

I just replaced mine with 8 plait line and chain. Works perfect now. I got it form http://www.secosouth.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=BASK&Store_Code=SECO They were the lowest price I could find with that type of line. It's very soft, coils easy and runs right through the windlass.
I just checked my email from IMTRA. That's probably the same line as the sample they sent me. Very nice stuff. They call it: 1/2" YALE NYLON BRAIT 8 PLAIT ANCHOR & DOCK LINE

Sounds like it. Very soft and coils nicely. Knock on wood but it's worked perfectly since I installed it. Now the Admiral only needs to latch the security chain and not have to help the rode go through the windlass.
