is 6' of chain enough for the anchor? also, any suggestions on what type of anchor to buy for lake michigan (so sandy bottom).?

Although 6 feet will help, 12 would be better.

thanks Jim, I dont really understand the calculation... I believe they want you to have a third of ur boat size in chain (i have a 24 foot) and they say 5-1 on anchor line based on what? Boat size or depth of water? Ive seen both so I wasnt sure. Last year I had a 20 bow rider, anchoring wasnt my biggest worry.

The length of your boat will determine the size of your anchor and line. The amount of scope is based on the depth + freeboard (distance from top of the bow to the water). 7:1 is typically recommended.

Follow up question. I assume we would just want a single line (very long) and set appropriate depth for the situation (rather then tieing lines together), that being said we typically would be in under 10 feet of water when anchored with exceptions like the chicago fireworks where we might be in the middle of the lake. How much line does everyone have typically on their boats to cover most situations? 200 feet?

Yes, ideally a single line... not pieces tied together.

I have 200' of line and 25' of chain.

I asked a lot of anchor questions so a search might give you what you're looking for. I have 50' of chain and 300' of line coupled to a delta plow. MM
