I recently purchased a 2001 310 DA that had a Raytheon array, but no radar display. A friend of mine, who is an electronics technician checked out the array and said that it appears to be operating properly. From everything I can tell, this array was the original radar that was purchased with the boat in 2001.

I'll probably eventually upgrade to a digital system, but it looks like I can get a Raytheon SL70 display on Ebay, which would get me a working radar for the season without spending a whole lot of money. I never had radar before, so I have a couple of questions:

  • Other than the cable, are there any other components needed between the array and the display?
  • Are there other analog Raytheon displays that would connect to this array that I should look for?

My old-school-cool analog Raymarine also has a "programming" head unit attached and a fluxgate (compass) I believe. I'm not sure you can simply plug into a display and have it work. But I could be wrong!

It probably will work with the original c-series Raymarine MDF units like the C80 without any other additional hardware as long as you have the proper wiring cable. Far better than the old RL70. There is a compatibility chart on Raymarine's site if you can figure out your radome model. If the software on the head unit has been updated you will need to buy a fluxgate compass to be able to overlay the radar over the charts on the head unit.

Thanks Creekwood. I'll check out the C80. It's good to know that there is something with better technology that will work with it.

I can currently get an RL70 dirt cheap though, so I'm thinking that might be worth buying first just to confirm whether the array is actually functioning properly.

I had the RL80 series on the 280. I know the rl radar is not compatible with the C 80 from upgrading the RL system. I had the opportunity to buy an RL compatible array before I upgraded and checked on the compatibility with the C series.

Thanks for letting me know Henry

It turns out, the display I had found was an SL70, not and RL70. Does anyone know of a site where you can check which displays are compatible with which arrays?

Thanks! That's very helpful.
