Took a while to do it but got rid of the factory table that was completly useless. It was OK for 2 people but if more than 2 it was always a pain. In the normal position no one would be well seated to eat and when it was sideways we were all in same corner with no room put put anything except plates and a few condiments. Now we can sit anywhere and plenty of space for all. It is made out of Ash wood. the Admiral is very happy :smt038

That's very nice! It looks like you can have quite a banquet now! Well done!
The original really did look useless. The leg seemed to be located incorrectly to be of any use too.

I plan on building something similar, very nice. I think I will round the corners on the extensions but the size is just about what I am looking for. Nice job!

Great Job. I have the same stupid table and hate it. Can you give me some details on the materials you used? Wood, Hinges, Finish?

Also, does the engine hatch still open ok with the extra weight or do you have to remove the table?

Thanks,

Pete

The table is made of Ash wood. It's in the hardwood family. I didn't round the corners of the extension too much as it would of made a type of "V" at the table center ends when the panels are closed. I got the hardware at a local chandlery store for the posts, 3 top pedestle. I bought the "hidden Hinges" at Lee Velley tools. I like them as you don't see them when table is open and only a bit of them when table is closed. On the original leg placement I put a new leg and top pedestle and the othe leg I have 2 top pedestle as the bottom one I just installed in the reverse postion so I could move table to one side or the other. I found out I had to use Tee nuts and thumb bolts on bottom of second leg to help the sturdyness of the table. Yes the actuator can still lift hatch with table installed.

Thanks for the info. Was the ash 3/4"? Is it pretty sturdy? Did you finish with Helmsman or something else? Were the hidden hinges stainless? Did you biscuit join the boards?

Appreciate the help,

Pete

I did want the table to be at least 1 inch thick but since we plained both side I finished a bit over 3/4 ". It is sturdy enough. I was also thinking the thicker that size of table the heavier.Stained with Old Master penetrating stain and then Old Master Urathane. Trying to get stainless hinge but order would have been too late. Will probably order some if these seems to tarning or rust. We are not in salt water.
All wood was laminated with PL board to board no biscuit.
