I need to run power and grounding wire to batteries,is there a difference between the wire you buy at home depot ,menards and the stereo audio store besides the fancy colors. looking at 2 gauge wire?

It's worse than that. You should be using marine wire. For auto use, there isn't a difference.

4 ga. wire will be good enough, how far are you going? If 15-20 feet then 4 ga is fine, if further, may consider heavier wire, depends on how much draw you will have (how big the amp is) definately get wire specified for stereo use, don't sub hardware store wire for it. good luck, any questions PM me. Have 2 amps and several speakers installed inmy 290 SD.

Technically, you can use any wire as long as the conductors are stranded and not solid.
"Marine grade" uses tinned copper wire to avoid corrosion issues like Mike said above. If you go with automotive type wire, be sure to use good quality heat shrink tubing to protect the wiring.
