Am I Obsessive?!

I am right there with the rest of you. I spend five times more time cleaning, patching, repairing, polishing and cleaning up dog hair than I do on the water. But cleaning the boat is my therapy. The neighbors think I am nuts but there is nothing better than sitting in the boat that is parked in the driveway with a frosty cold one admiring your work... lol
I know the feeling! Then after my beer, I take pictures of my work to enjoy at home later.. Can we get a group rate doc???

You win for most excessive use of fenders!!!

At least they are on the finger and not on the boat under way. LOL

MM
Don't want to scratch my baby at the dock  Ok make fun of me but my dock neighbor has me beat!

When we were on Sydney Harbour for 4 nights, the friend we were tied up to, fell over when I bought my portable vacuum cleaner out.............he was calling out to his wife, he keeps a Dyson on board !

We have one on board also, works great!

Keep the boat clean & in very good condition. Normal for a relatively new boat owner.

Obsessive is having a '71 Buick look like the dealer took the wrapper off yesterday.
Rebuilt the original engine & trans. about 4 years ago & converted it to a 4V.
Found, purchased, restored, rebuilt & installed the "correct" date stamped carb.. Put it on the "correct" date stamped 4V intake.
New vacuum hoses were very nice reproductions with the "correct" grain & ribbing as pre GM as new.
Found, purchased, restored & rebuilt a replacement correct alternator, even dated right on the case. This # was used only in '71, only for Buick & only for a car with AC.
Wiper fluid hose has the "correct" yellow stripe.Plug wire retainers are correct, plug wires are correctly date coded, hood hinges have the correct black phosphate coating as new.
That's just a tiny corner of the underhood area. It gets much, much worse...!!
Rebuilt a variable rate power steering box to have as a spare. Wasn't able to find the right date stamped cover, I'm 2 days off on that one.
This was before I started boating & needed some activities to pull me thru the Winter.

Put the car away in June this year. In the way, not being used, getting dusty.
Spent all my spare time on the water.

I've been accused of being "anal" about my boats. So obsessive isn't bad. Or are they both the same. Oh who cares anyway, I have to go clean my boat. It hasn't been dusted for three hours!!! And it's been put away for the winter already. Sometimes I just sit on it on the trailer and drink wine while I do a bit of cleaning. Hmmmm,,,, maybe that's a whole other problem. Yep, put me down for therapy. We can have group sessions on a different member's boat every month. BYOWAR!! (bring your own wax and rags)

I figure if you have to ask if you're obsessive, you already know you are, you're just looking for a good support group because it's cheaper than therapy!

I don't think I'm obsessive about my boat....
sand doesn't bother me
I let people use the head for #1 or #2
etc.

My boat has two rules...
#1 is HAVE FUN
#2 is no red wine.

If you can't have fun on my boat without red wine, I don't want you on my boat 'cause you're a wine snob. Otherwise, come aboard and have fun!

The wife was pregnant when we bought it but she is not going to like the no red wine thing next summer.

Red wine is only served on our boat in two handled "sippy cups"

Nothing red or orange in liquid form comes on OldSkool. The only thing allowed that is red is the admirals hair. Switching from the factory yellow to gray and yellow interior made a big difference in my maintenance.

Gray carpet does not show near as much as white or yellow. It "only" took 12 yards of industrial vinyl and 3 sheets of marine grade plywood to transform her interior. I went to change the vinyl on the engine cover and the thing fell apart. The vinyl was the only thing holding it together.

Worked in an ice cold garage through the winter to make the transformation. One of the best projects I have done to date.

Yes we do have fun on the boat like GFC states but tinkering after the fact is my escape from reality when we are not on her.

Ok the Red Wine topic has come in...

When we had the Navy review on the harbour a few weeks back. On the Sunday night, tied up with friends the topic came up about Red Wine, it is my main drink, and for the first time they had not bought any which his wife wasn't impressed about, as she likes Red as well, they hadn't bought it because Red and fibreglass don't mix..I had not heard this before....

The Monday night we had the boy's night, 17 guys across 2 boats, the normal thing when we go to a restaurant is bottles of Red.

It took until 10pm for someone to spill a glass of Red down the side of my boat. Considering the amount of polish on my boat, I could not believe how much effort and how long it took me to get it out!

Then when we dropped every one off, motored back to the anchor spot and settled down, I found another spill in almost the same spot!!

That's it, I don't care even how much I like Red wine, no more Red Wine on the boat, ever!
