Always wanted a FLIR?

I have the FLIR One. I'll have to take it with me this weekend and do an after action.

Yeah, I bought the flir one also. Man this thing has a ton of uses on a boat. Anything from finding the source of water intrusion to navigating at night.

I was one of the few that were testing this last December and they have made a lot of progress with integration and overall price of them. We use them everyday.

How helpful is this with nav and running at night? How far ahead can you see? I would think the fact you have to hold up with your hand, makes it kind of cumbersome? Is a larger, boat mounted Flir with a dedicated dash screen required to truly see what's out there?

The detail isn't like the expensive dedicated boat flirs, but it's a fraction of the cost. IMO it's much more useful than their scout units that cost $1500. If you want a fixed mount wireless unit, the FX one looks like a good option. How useful is it on the water? Not sure yet. But you can scan around in the dark and see obstacles on the water that you can't see with your naked eye. So far distance seems to be limited and detail at distance isn't great, but I'm blown away with what it can do, on a phone.

I happen to be a FLIR dealer for the Fire Service but can sell to anyone (not just first responders). Check out our site www.teamequipment.com look at the FLIR thermal image cameras and open the PDF brochure (towards the bottom of the page). On page 3 it shows the different models and how far you can see with them. A few things to think about. FLIR offers their thermal image camera under a few different names but besides the color they are the same. Example any Scout model will cross over to a First Mate model and besides the part number being different and the external color (one is green the other gray) they will otherwise be the same camera.
What you need to decide is:
1. How far do you need to see (bigger ships require more time to react)?
2. Will you integrate with your other onboard systems (use your existing display)?
3. Do you want to be able to take it off of your boat?
4. What’s your budget?
FLIR controls MAP pricing (Manufacturers Advertised Price) with their dealers so most likely you will not find anyone advertising a discounted price but if you are interested in getting one I can get you a substantial discount just let me know. tom@teamequipment dot com

FLIR- The world’s sixth sense. It’s kinda like having your very own super power!
