Just did alternator upgrade on the 8.2L. Went from the factory amp to a 105amp marine alternator. Charging about 3x as fast as before. Great upgrade for any of you V8 guys. I used this same alternator on my old 7.4L Mercruiser as well.

You can order this exact alternator here: https://amzn.to/3cfXdPQ

Install on 8.2L (502). Video here:

Install on 7.4L (454). Video here:

I was actually thinking about this yesterday when I saw the factory one was only 55 amps. Shoot, even my 69 Camaro has a 60 amp...

As important is the wiring going to and fro from the alternator. Never understood the puny 10ga charging wire and then try to pass 70+ amps thorough it. I upgraded wiring on both mine.

Good point. Mine was 8 gauge so I left it. But if you have 10 gauge wiring then definitely run a larger wire along with the alternator upgrade.

If you have a serpentine belt and not a v-belt then all you need to do is swap your pulley. See the second video in the first post above on the Mercruiser 7.4. Really easy.
