I need to replace the alternator on the port engine and will probably just do the starboard side at the same time. What brand should I go for? Several options on amazon...

I just bought a Sierra from Wholesale marine for my 7.4 MPI....delivery was quick and it was as advertised.

I have used these guys for several alternators and starters on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/str/discountstarterandalternator as well as DB Electrical. Been happy with each. Probably not as good as OEM but with care they have lasted well. Personally I think most of the stuff is Chinese built anyway. Many come from the same factories under different brands.

A lot of the alternators from the 90's are made in Korea. The ones on my 95 290 DA and my 90 305 ci are the same and from Korea

I'd stick with OEM, yes more money but my experience has been OEM lasts longer and there's no problem with it being the correct part.
