So, I pull my port engine alternator yesterday and discover that the bracket is broken completely through. I have no idea how this would happen other than I had the impellers and belts replaced a few months ago. I had an engine alarm when I was last running and the gauge showed about 10 volts on that side. Does anyone think the broken bracket was the culprit? I will take the alternator in to have it tested, in the mean time I need to get this bracket before next weekend so I can replace it before my 2-week cruise to San Francisco and Monterey!

Where is the fastest place to get this bracket??????? I was going to call the closests MM in CA (which is San Diego since they closed all of them in Northern CA). :smt021

I found the part on marinepartsexpress.com. My other question still applies...

re Broken bracket and low voltage - I would think so if it allowed the belt to slip.

Henry

Thanks Henry. As a matter of fact the port engine belt was squealing pretty bad prior to replacing the belt...

I recently had a slip neighbor with a belt squeal on what seemed to be a tight belt. After looking in my service manual, I was suprised how much belt tension is needed on a marine engine vs. the type of tensioning method used on GM automotive applications (spring tension idler). The marine alternators must have some hefty bearings to handle the additional side load of the belt tension.
