Alpha Ones Impeller change with twins

Mine come off and go on a stand that I built out of scrap 2x12 cut offs I had laying around. Then I make coffee and sit in my basement with my dog curled up on her workshop bed. Chill out and start on the drives, nice and easy to do it with no stress in the heated house than behind/under a boat. Plus, if the phone rings or whatever, no rush to slap them back on the boat, just walk away finish later.

I like your idea but if it were in my workshop I'd start and wouldn't be able to stop until it was done. I'll do that but in March.

I've never successfully split the drives while on the boat. I just didn't have enough hands or the right cuss words to get it back together. I just pulled the whole drive and did them that way. I'm thinking I might try one of them with it trimmed up. If it goes well and I learn the correct series of magic cuss words, I might try the second one the same way.

Almost time to start this job. I'm still tossed in removing drives or just splitting them. They were off for sure 2014 and most likely last year as drives were serviced by marina but last owner wasn't sure what that meant. All he knows was fluid and fresh anti fouling paint. Dry bilge unless it rained from radar joint but I re caulked the entire boat so that should be ok.

If they were off 2 years ago... you have shorts seasons (less hours, typically), cold water (less corrosion)... just split 'em.

Yes, season runs may 1 to nov 1 and could have been removed for service last season and all last season put about 20 hours on engines. I will definately remove drives next year but waned one less thing for this year to do even tho it's not that much more work for peace of mind but like I said. Dry bilge and no issues. Just wanna replace impellers and housings so I know what I have.

I have done it both ways, full drive and split. Split drive is easier on my boat while on trailer. Although I need to usually lay on the ground for better leverage. But, I'm also only dealing with about 1/2 the weight. I trim up as little as possible to get bottom off cleanly.

Well the job is done. Took about 4 hours total taking my time and also cleaning passage and spraying some antifouling paint. Pump housing says 60 in pounds and I'm sure I went a little more than that when tightening but should be good to go I hope. Almost forgot the little oil seal.
