Alpha One Outdrive

I just got through winterizing my 89 280 DA and removed both outdrives to replace the water impellers. When I took off the Starboard outdrive there was gear oil in the drive shaft bellow. Does this mean the seal is bad and needs to be replaced? And is this a job that I can do over the winter myself? Thank you in advance. Bill

I had that happen and it turned out to be the yoke was scored. It didn't make a good surface for the new seal and had to be replaced.
