I just recently removed my lower unit for my first time to replace my impeller. Everything went well, as I was putting it back together, I noticed that the surface on the lower unit where the impeller housing installs with the gaskets. Was a little corroded. I cleaned it up as best as I could and reinsalled everything. When I started the engine, water began leaking between the lower unit and the upper unit, not real bad, but enough. Did I miss a step, or is it leaking between the impeller housing and lower unit.

2001 280 SD. Not sure when the last time this was done, but impeller did not look to bad. If it is in fact the corosion on the lower unit, is there a way to fix it?

If you missed the guide tube the motor will overheat quickly.Thoses corrosion issues are common, you need to clean the surface, brass or SS brush NO STEEL.
prime and paint. Use the merc sealer or PermaTex Aviation liquid to paint the surface. That area it the place the pumps suck in air.

I cleaned the area very well, it looks as if there is large pitting on both sides that I believe is causing the leaks. Is there a way to fill then sand smooth the areas?
