Hello
A question regarding filling in the void/cavity where the trim/tilt hoses pass into the lower section of the G/housing, below the Y pipe.
Upon removal of our 20 year old unit I discovered that once water collects in this area it is permanently trapped and gradually corrodes the internal assembly and possibly the transom. Could this area be filled with a silicon or an expanding foam to prevent water entry?

I don't have any direct experience, but some type of silicone would probably work.

Can you upload a picture of the cavity you are referring to?

Not if you ever want to use it again. That area is needed to route the trim hoses and wires if you use the Mercathode system.
There shouldn't be continual standing water in that area. If there is, find/fix the leak.

No mercathode on ours, ANY water in the bilge will find its way into this cavity and due to the transom angle and the transom cut out angle it is trapped I am of the opinion the hoses and fittings seldom require attention and if I went with foam it would be easier to remove.

You would likely have to pull the engine(s) to access that area to install new hoses, especially if you foam it in. My boat has the Mercathode system and I don't see any problem with that area. Now that being said, I did notice what looks like heavy grease packed into that area on my boat. Maybe somebody did that to prevent water from having a place to accumulate, I don't know but now I'm curious.
