Some of you may remember a post I made in the spring about what to do with a boat that was going to be sitting for a year without being used. Some said to fill the fuel tank, others said to drain it.
Well I decided that the best thing to do was to run it and not let it sit. So today I finish packing the boat, hitch it to my truck and tow it out to Vancouver tomorrow.
I'm still doing my annual 3 week trip out to the coast this year. The only difference is it will be just me this year. Going to have to figure out how to do a stern tie without anyone helping out but I'll figure it out.
This year I'm hoping to go further north than I've gone before and tackling Johnstone Strait.

Good decision :smt001 Have an uneventful trailering trip!

Thanks Dennis, I'm hoping for a long boring drive tomorrow LOL. Going to be a hot one though 36 C (97 F) in Kamloops which I'll be passing through in the middle of the afternoon.

Have a safe drive and an awesome 3 weeks on the water. I'd be temtpted to just keep going an' not come back. It's beautiful up there. It'd be great if you could post some pics:grin:

Make sure your trailer is ready for the trip....bearings greased, wiring all set, etc.

Oh, and have fun and take us along by posting pictures of your trip.

Have a great trip. I'll be in the Gulf islands again starting Saturday.

Well the drive out wasn't completely event free. When I stopped in Kamloops to get gas there was no credit card in my wallet. Turns out I left it in the card reader at the gas station in Golden, which was a three hour drive away. So I had to call the CC company and cancel the card. And guess what the number to call if the card is lost or stolen is on the back of the card. LOL a lot of good that does.
Now me being the only one in North America without a smart phone had to figure out what number to call without just going on line to get it. I ended up phoning my brother and he got me the number. I had them cancel the card and send another one to Comox, which was where I was heading by the end of the week. I had to use my debit card until then for the gas.

Then I get back on the road and get to the Coquihalla summit and there is construction going on that has traffic backed up for more than an hour. So decided to stop at the rest stop rather than moving at a snails pace. Started talking to one guy there and it turn out he is almost out of gas and the nearest station is in Hope which is still about 100 km away. He was going to phone a friend in Vancouver to bring him out some gas. I had a gas can in the back of the truck so gave the gas to him to get him back on the road. Turns out he runs a winery in Richmond so has offered me some free wine if I ever go there.

As I result of the delays it was getting dark by the time I got my boat in the water. By the time I got it all ready, parked my truck at my sisters and took a cab back (sister was out of town and forgot to leave me a key). It was pitch dark. There was no overnight mooring at the boat ramp dock so I went up to Bedwell bay in the dark. Its a good thing it was only a 6 Km run up there.

As well my planned 2 weeks in Desolation Sound only turned out to be a couple of night in Desolation Sound. I'll start another tread in the cruising section on the details why.

Here is a bit of the reason why I didn't spend too much time in Desolation sound.

The drive home was a little less eventful, only lost a bit of time when I stopped to help change a blown tire on a travel trailer. I did get home at three in the morning though.

Thanx for the update. Lookin' forward to more. Where do you launch when you cruise the islands?

I launch the boat in Cates Park in North Van. Its part way up the Indian arm not too far from the second narrows bridge.
Very good 5 lane ramp that is never busy on weekdays. Don't know about weekends though. Good dock there too. I then drive my truck and trailer to my sisters place in North Van and leave it there.
