So back last month I contacted my Allstate insurance agent for the 310da before I bought it and he said he would take care of everything. When I got the boat I received my doc sheet on the boat insurance.Reading over it they had changed the model to a 290da. so I called them up and told them that that was not correct and it needed changed. They told me no problem .Well it turns out that it is a problem .To make a long story short do to its age and length they needed the appraisal and marine survey which wasn't a problem because I had done that anyways. So now i got temporary insurance on the boat with them until they review the document of the survey to determine if they will insure the boat.

We were AllState for years (30+) for house & cars. When we got the boat, they cold not get close to what NBOA/Progressive quoted us. If your AllState quote comes back high,, you may want to give them a call.

I never had much luck dealing with the mainstream car/homeowner's providers like Nationwide, Allstate and Statefarm. I have Statefarm for the house and cars, but they are not able to come close to Progressive or BoatUS for the boat. I can also vouch for NBOA, used them for the 290.

Allstate is the WORST insurance company when it comes to claims handling. No way I would insure a large boat with them. As others have said give NBOA a call. They know the marine insurance business.

Several years ago I had a 330 Sundancer that was hit by a BUI that was insured by Allstate. To make a long story short, they were a ROYAL PITA to work with to get them to pay the claim. It took me an entire summer to get a check out of them.

I agree Allstate is the worst insurance company. Run forest run

I had a lousy experience with Allstate as well when my boat got hit by lightening.

I have allstate for home and car. I would drop them in a second if it wasn't for it's almost impossible to get insurance where I live. They keep jacking up my rates. Oh and as for boat...LOL..They were 3X what I pay right now. Charter Lakes have the best prices and the people there are really nice......

The timing of this thread is awesome. Yesterday Allstate sent me a random quote for homeowners coverage. I had the envelope in front of me as I was reading this thread. I was about to just toss in the trash, but curiosity forced me to open it. I'm glad I did - I can start the day with a laugh:

Dwelling protection is half my current policy, deductables are the same. The annual premium is almost $500 higher.

So you guys are saying I shouldn't switch?

We just switched our cars only to Allstate with 5 cars and 2 newer drivers they where almost $3,000 cheaper than everyone else.
boat is with NBOA can't be beat so far. charter lakes was much higher than NBOA for us. I wonder where the big premium differences come from?

In my case it was just a form letter, and to be fair to them, there was a big asterisk that the quote was only an estimate. Odd though, because every other company seems to use similar data.

They get their base assumptions from a combination of information in the CLUE insurance industry database and the credit reporting companies.

I was with Allstate from the early 70's until the mid 90's when I switched to another major carrier. They've got my house, 4 cars and umbrella.
I've got two collector cars with a company that specializes in them because they understand agreed value and if I have a loss they'll send a guy who knows collector cars instead of a guy that knows late model cars.
I've got my boat with NBOA, and the bow rider my kids use with Boat US (soon to be moved to NBOA with the big boat. I keep my boats with boat companies because they also understand agreed value and if I have a loss the adjuster will be a boater not a roofer.

Thank you for all your insights .I talked to NBOA and they got me a policy for less money and better coverage with AIG. Like some of you said its nice knowing that my boat is covered by a company that insures marine vessels rather then houses and cars.

Funny, this came today

Did they explain the difference between yacht policy and boat policy?
