Anybody know anything about Mag Alloy rims with salt water use? I know galvinized is best, but really hate the look.

Wash 'em after every launch and retrieval and they will last a while. In Destin you will have as much of a problem with corrosion from the salt in the air as anything. I keep a Jeep with factory alloys in a garage at a beach house 35 miles from you and even with regular washing, the wheels have become corroded in 10 years. When I can't stand the look, I'll replace the wheels since the Jeep has only 29K miles on it. My advice is to go to alloys if you really prefer that look, but realize that they are going to get pretty narley in several years and you may need to replace them at some point.

I don't how much longer it will actually make your rims last till you start seeing pitting or the clear coating starting to peel, but doing a final rinse (religiously) with something like Salt Away may give you some extra time. If you do start to see them peeling - take them to a wheel shop and have them re-coated.

In my continual search to find a better rim, I came across this web site. I had not thought about "hub caps" before now, but I figure from 15 feet away they will look real and maybe give me what I want without all the issues.

I will post later and tell you what I think of my investment...

It would be a lot cheaper to take them to a shop that re-habs wheels and have them re-done.

Thanks, but I looked into it. The minimum standard wholesale cost from Keystone for refinishing an alloy wheel is $150........X 5 = $750. I'll find some used ones or buy aftermarket replacements when the time comes.
