Alloy Marine "Suck Up" oil extractor

I'm not sure if I googled the correct thing, or not, but it looks like that thing takes 50 strokes to depressurize the tank! I hope you eat your Wheaties! I bought the MityVac 7201 http://www.mityvac.com/pages/products_fee.asp , which is similar in design/function to that Alloy. But, it only takes about 10-15 pumps. I bought this because I specifically did NOT want a powered unit. Otherwise, I would buy one of the self-contained, powered units - or even install a permanent system onboard.

There's been a number of threads about oil suckers. You just have to search for them - I'll give you the first one for free :smt001. Actually, this one is pretty good and discusses a number of different types. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/49511-Anyone-Use-One-of-These-to-Change-Their-Oil

I used one of those pump kits that you buy from West Marine that comes with the hoses that connect to the hose bib fittings on your dipsticks. For the used oil I have a 5-gal bucket with a hole in the lid. I'd run the outlet hose into the hole and there was no muss, no fuss with the old oil. It only took about 2-3 minutes per engine to suck the old oil up the dipstick tube. Then I'd use a gallon size zip lock baggie to remove each of the oil filters. I'd dump the filters in the bucket then zip lock the baggie to keep oil from leaking out.

It was only a 30 minute job to change the oil in both engines.

I'm not sure what the Alloy one looks like, but I have a Tempo oil boy. It works very well.

Kurt - one other thing... a 3/8" ID hose will fit ONTO the top of the dipstick tube - that will go quicker than sticking a smaller tube into the dipstick tube and both ways get the same amount of oil out. If you can get to your quick-drain oil hoses, you can hook up to that with a brass pipe-to-hose connector (cheap) - that's the best way to get the oil out.

I too have the Tempo unit. Works great. I've used it to suck up all kinds of stuff. Just a few pumps and off it goes.
