I have a 2006 Sea Ray 195 Sport thats alarm wont quit going off. I got it back from a mechanic a few months back, and the alarm would go off when i started the engine, but once i gave it some gas, the alarm went away. I also have a problem with the actual ignition switch that I think may be a part of this. It spins 360 degrees within the housing and can be a real problem to start.

In any case, the alarm is incessant and I dont know what the problem is. Im sure there are a million things that could be wrong, but I'd really rather just find the alarm and cut it off. Any ideas?

I'm sure that the alarm is annoying, but its there to alert you to a problem. It could be a serious or it could just be a bad sensor.

If you're not a DIY kinda guy I suggest you take it back to the mechanic to see if he can diagnose the problem. If you have the skill and desire to tackle it yourself, I'm sure there are many on this board who are willing to help you if you can provide a little more detail about the problem. A good start would be to give us some more info about your boat.

First thing to do is fix the ignition switch. Can you access the back of the switch? If so verify the wire aren't twisted or broken from the spinning. If it looks good from the back side you should be able to secure it by tightening the nut on the front (goes around the body of the switch and may be under a rubber/plastic cover) while holding the back end from rotating. Don't over do it as the parts are most likely plastic and will strip easily.

What type of engine? Your signature doesn't mention carb'd or MPI.

Have you tried searching for the reasons that the alarm would go off - or checked in your owner's manual?

Is it your depthfinder or engine alarm? Trace the wire on the back of the depthfinder to the buzzer.

It is definitely the engine alarm. I found the depth finder, and that's not it. I checked all gauges, and they look good, im wondering if i have a bad sensor somewhere? I Checked the oil reservoir that is for the outdrive, and that's full. I unplugged the wires thinking there may be a bad float, but that is good to go.

I'm running at about 170 on my temp gauge. is that too high? It's about 2/3 of the way up the gauge.

170 on the gauge would be considered “in the green”. Keep the trouble shoot going or take it back to your mechanic. Have you checked your oil and other lubricant levels?

I have a 2005 Sundancer 280,with twin alpha engines. I was out today going about 1000 RPM's when the alarm went off. The dash read out said PSI.The engines stayed cool. Anyone know what this could be?

Does your 06 195 Sport have SmartCraft? If so, you should be able to read your error message on the display.

The "Sports" don't have SC.

But, something I'm wondering - if it's an MPI engine w/o SC (which I why, like you, I asked what engine he has).... will the alarm only go off for the standard three things or will it still go off for all the things an SC-equipped engine would - just without the ability to display the event. Between schedules and work being very busy right now, I haven't been able to talk to the right guys in the shop, yet. I *believe* it still uses the 555 computer, but I'm not positive. Next, would it have all the same sensors?
