We just purchased our 1990 200 cuddy cabin got the boat for a killer price being the end of the season up here. Boat is overall very good condition just really needs a good detailing. The problem is when I turn the key into the on position I have the alrm buzzer going off any ideas on what might be doing this we have it hooked up to the charger right now as both batteries were drained by wife leaving lights on for 2 days. Any ideas would bve great as this is our first motor boat oh yeah it is a mercruiser 4.3

Three possibilities I can think of:
1 - low oil pressure alarm (the alarm will stop when you start the motor if oil pressure is ok)
2 - low fluid in the outdrive reservoir bottle (check fluid level if you have one)
3 - engine overheat alarm (probably not the case as you say the alarm starts right after you turn the key)

That is normal. When you turn the key to the "on" position, the buzzer goes off because you have no oil pressure -- obviously you have no oil pressure since the engine has not yet been started. It should go off within a few seconds after you start it.

That's what I said.

David, look at the time between your post and mine. When I started to reply, there were no other posts. Besides, most people that ask a question probably feel better if they hear the same answers from a few people - just for confirmation. Don't sweat it. :smt001

11 minutes. Great minds think alike.....I am not perspiring.....merely bantering which sometimes goes South because...internet chat, texting, email, etc. lacks body language and tone of voice...it's all good Dennis.

Gotcha. That's actually what I originally thought, but then I wasn't sure. You're right, it is tough to tell when we only have words.

Yes, I totally agree with the "great minds" statement!!!
