AIS Class B Transeiver

Has anyone installed an AIS Transmitter/Receiver on their boat?

I'm looking at a unit from Raymarine possibly as an off season install item.

I installed the simrad version two years ago. Very happy, it distributes through my nema 2000 network to all devices on my network.

Did you install a second VHF antenna for it to work? I get the impression it requires its own antenna.
