Hey everyone

I am upgrading my nav and radar system. I have an Airmar P79 transducer that had a connector spliced onto it for the old nav system.

I am looking for a connector to splice in to Airmar 8 wire cable to connect it to the new Garmin 8 pin. Anyone happen to have done this and know a part number?

I'll be calling Gemeco tomorrow if not to see what they have to say.

Thanks!

I saw that and thought...all i want is a connector I can splice. ...

That's basically all that it is, inside the box is a terminal strip. Just a little easier then crimp connectors and tape or shrink tubing. If possible, use the heat shrink connectors when connecting the wires to the terminal block. I believe West Marine sells them.

I ordered up the below as mentioned earlier in the thread. Comea in Friday and thinking it should work out good. Will update once I see my depth

Airmar has the wiring diagrams on their website to confirm, but given that P79 is depth only you are likely 3 wires (blue, black, bare). Connect blue-blue, black-black, and bare to bare. White is the thermistor/temp so you can leave that one disconnected

I'm looking forward to this project being done. New dash panels, new radar dome and navigation system, remove all the old screws and wire pass-through for old gear, fill all holes and then repaint the dash.

Not to mention all of the old wiring I have removed/corrected.

Trying to treat this old boat better than the previous owner and hoping it does the same in return.

Well, a bit of frustration that ended ok.

Got the transducer all wired up using the Garmin adapter. I actually even followed the very good directions included (exact mapping of wires based on transducer model).

Turned the unit on...no depth information. Fiddled around forever wondering if there was some software setting or something I missed. Nothing.

Finally called Garmin. Got right to a real human. Explained I was frustrated and laid out what I was doing and what was happening. The fella was understanding, calming and walked through everything.

He was quick to say that with transducers that don't do water temp you often have to add a jumper between pins 4 and 5. He said he would happily hold if I had the ability to try it.

Grabbed some wire and jumped the pins. Suddenly my nav unit lit up with depth and sonar charts. Success!

I thanked him profusely and said a note in the install guide would be helpful.
