Airmar – IDST-N2000 triducer w/ Garmin GPSmap.

Looking for some advice on hooking up an Airmar transducer to my Garmin GPS.


I have an Airmar – IDST-N2000 triducer mounted in the boat.

I have to following Garmin Units

GPSmap 7212
GPSmap 547xs
GPSmap 541s

I would like to hook the Airmar triducer up to the 7212 but it’s my understanding that I need a control module like a GSD24 ??

Can I run the Airmar traducer with either the 547xs or 541s without a control module ?

I believe the Airmar – IDST-N2000 transducer is NMEA 2000 and will need to be connected to an NMEA 2000 network. If you don't have that setup then you will need this at a minimum: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/66030

The boat is setup with a NMEA 2k network but its my understanding the I can not just hook the transducer to the network and have the chart plotter read it, I need a sonar module like the GSD24 ???

Nope, you are incorrect. The transducer is N2K and therefore independent of sonar capabilities. That transducer will only read depth as a number and not work with any sonar capable unit. The depth can be displayed in the data bar(s) of the 72xx I am not sure about the 54xx units. If you want sonar capabilities then you need a sonar module like the GSD24 and a compatible transduce to connect to it. Your N2K unit is not that.
