I have two round outlet grills that can be rotated, but not closed. The fwd one is OK, but the one in the mid cabin (right next to the AC unit) comes out too strong.

I have seen other grills (not sure what to call them) that can be adjusted for open/closed, similar to a car. They are round as well, with a knob in the center that opens/closes the vent.

Anyone know where I can find these?

During the day I want them fully open, but at 3 AM it gets too cold, specially in the mid cabin.

I have tried lowering the fan speed, but even at the lowest setting it's still too strong.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,

Esteban

I would call Cruise Aire and see if they can help out........or try a local RV supply store to see what they may have.

The center knob opens/closes two vanes inside, so they can be adjusted anywhere between fully open or fully closed.

I saw them on another boat and found them doing web research until I stumbled upon them at an RV site.

I ordered (2) direct from the manuf.

They have another two models that be adjusted open/close on their web site, but I went with the one pictured here.

Hey Estebanj...

Please let us know how well/easily they install. I block/redirect the mid-cabin vent now in a very makeshift way and would love an easy fix. Thanks for the info!

If you choke down the air flow like this will it have any ill effects on the system? This won't make the coil freeze up will it? (not enough air flow across it)

I have the same vent on my 260 Sundancer as shown in the above pic. I envision it should be a 2 minute replacement specially if the screw holes match. I placed the order today and will report back once installed.

To control the fan speed on mine, I just press fast or slow to go into manual speed mode. The manual light comes on. This is in the SMXir keypad.

However, the difference between slow and fast is so negligible, that I keep mine on auto. There is an adjustment for how slow is slow, but I have not adjusted that. I figured I tried the adjustable vent first and see how that goes. This is from the manual:

Low Fan Speed Adjustment (Factory Default: 38)

You can adjust the lowest fan speed to suit individual preferences. For instance, you may wish to decrease the low fan speed setting in your stateroom to minimize fan noise.

Upon entering the Programming Mode, press the Down and Set keys simultaneously. The current low speed reference number will be displayed (factory set at 38).

Hint: You should normally keep the low fan speed at the highest possible setting, consistent with a comfortable noise level, for most efficient operation of your system. Running the fan speed too slow may have an adverse affect on the system and may cause the evaporator coil to freeze.

Probably not but it depends how far you close it. If you cut back just a bit it will force more flow to the other outlet and make it a bit noisier.

The adjustable Rotaire both opens/closes, and rotates.

I do wonder about possible ill effects on the unit. My goal is to leave the fwd one fully open, and close the aft one 50-75%.

It looks identical Esteban, right down to the screw holes, shouldn't take more than a few minutes to install and check. Thanks for the heads up.

Rcvd and install. As expected, Dura Beige was a darker tone of beige, but they look good anyways. The ones I removed were labeled white and I believe they come from the same company.

Install took 2 mins. The screws match and removing/reinserting the duct hose was easy.

The vents can be easily be adjusted to fully open or fully closed. The 25 and 50% positions work OK as well. The 75% position is a bit tricky b/c the vent tends to want to close itself at this setting (I guess the strong air pushes it closed).

I also adjusted the low fan speed setting in the SMXir control. Low is now really low. Based on the instructions, what the unit does is divide the range/spread between high and low into 5 equal increments. I believe high is set at 60 and low at 38 by default (the scale is not 0-100). I lowered my low to 18, which I'm thinking is too low.

I'm going to play with this the next few overnights and see what works best. I need to do it overnight b/c during daylight the cabin has to be in high/full blast and the compressor stays on during the whole daylight basically.

If people are experiencing too cold cabins during the night, I think I would first look into adjusting the low/high settings in the SMXir. Depending in temperature, thermostat and humidity, you may experience compressor freeze up with too low a fan speed, so keep this in mind. The adjustable vents/grills are nice to have on top of this.

I realize this is an old thread but I thought I would add that I replaced the air conditioner vent that blows into the aft sleeping area on my 2000 270da with the same one below which was linked to earlier:

The correct color for me was off white. This has been the best, cheapest, easiest modification yet. It may not be as elequent as this one which was the factory vent:

but form follows function. I agree with all of estebanj comments above except I have not had a problem holding at the 75% level.
