Hello All,

Can anyone suggest an aftermarket GPS / Plotter that easy to install? Is there a GPS that's portable that also works in the car? Thanks.

Units with internal antennas are easy to install. Some can get power via the 12V power outlet and mount with a suction cup. This is as easy as it gets.

Several brands offer units for both marine and road use.

Garmin and Lowrance are two examples.

Garmin is the dominate brand in the small, simple, basic units.

Raymarine is the dominate brand for higher end, remote antenna, mounted, multiple purpose units for private vessels.

Furno and Navman are also popular.

I have the same boat and here is the setup I went with

The install was very simple with the location of the gps antenna above the dash. It is a Raymarine 435 color chartplotter and it uses Navionics Gold charts.

The best unit for both the boat and the car is the Garmin 478.

Garmin has pretty firmly upseeded Raymarine in the upscale market too. The upper end Garmin stuff is light years ahead of Raymarine's upper end stuff. I Ray E120 on one boat and Garmin 5212 on the other. I would pull the Ray stuff off in a heartbeat if the display hole could be covered by the Garmin 4212.
