Aftermarket exhaust?? Make boat rumble??

Had the Corsa exhaust on my 290.Didn't open them till I left the marina.Still like the sound on the boats that have them.

If one is within a mile or so of anchored vessels that are not in "cocktail cove", loud exhausts will be bothering others.

The principals of refraction concerning sound mean that a vessel anchored a long way away on water will get substancially more of a sound than if they were on land.

Volume is the deviding factor here. I like the sound of a well tuned Harley and a massauged small block Chev. My appreciation of the exhust comes from how well behaved the engine sounds rather than how loud it is. I have owned both and never gave much thought to offending or impressing those around me unless they approched me about it. There are many forms of "little man"which causing a rucuss with noise is only one of. Can anyone make a case for 10k watts bass feeding $2500 speakers when a pair of $50 headphones will give the listener truer reception. Is there one amoung us that will argue palominos horses out preform bays? Little man look at what I have has been with us as long as history reflects. There will always be those that just don't get it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,until it smacks between thier eyes like one day in Yellow Stone Natl Park. Park ranger warned hippies about loud radio earlier but short memory or I don't give a good rat's ass what you think caused them to turn it up again about sundown when most folks settled in for the night(no hook-ups tent camping). Middle aged gentelman walked over picked up their boom box and smashsed it on a nearby rock. Dead silence for what seemed like forever until two young men steped forward and told the offenders to get their belongings and git. The point is,if you like it loud, take it to a remote location and crumble your cookies. Freedom says you do as you please unless it infringes on another.

I really like the sound of my boat, but after a while I do run it closed. When I ran up the intercoastal in the middle of nowhere for 100 miles I ran it closed most of the time. You are right, most guys like the sound of a full roller small block with a little cam.

I think this video shows that others can definitely hear the corsa exhaust. I'd imagine its louder in person than on the video.

That is about right for the sound. To me, that is a very normal lake sound. There are some lakes in Texas that the number of boats with thru hull exhaust out number anything else. Some are over transom headers on jet boats and V drives with real performance engines. Those are loud. I know people that wear ear plugs on their 750 HP plus 19 foot boats. They go around 100+ and will get there in less than 5 seconds. I have had grown men giggle because they didnt know what else to do in my little jet. It only have 450 HP, goes 63 MPH and will go 0-50 in about 4 seconds.

Well, that's Texas, where the desire for "bigger, badder, louder, meaner" seems to be congenital. Here in VA open exhausts are illegal on all inland waterways. So, yeah, the guys doing that _here_ are putting their desire above all else. That's pretty much a dick move when it impacts others.

If it's the norm where you are, then I understand why you think we are all being unreasonable. Where open exhaust isn't the norm, then the people running open around others are the ones being unreasonable.

"Wow, so just because I have thru hull on my boat I am a dick now or act a certain way?" It might. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Same thing applies to being a dick....if someone thinks you're acting like a dick, then to them you are.

"just because I like the rumble of a V-8 on the water does not mean I am not considerate." When there are others on their boats that are close enough to hear your loud exhaust, it does mean you're inconsiderate...and quite possibly a dick.

"I tried not to overdo it and most times if guys turned their head to see what was making the noise it was with a wistful look and smile on their face." Not a wistful look, they were thinking "there goes another dick with a loud boat to compensate for his small dick."

"To me, that is a very normal lake sound." Yup, a normal lake sound. Kinda like the quiet sound of waves lapping on the shore, or a gull's call as it rides the breezes, or the sound of geese flying overhead. Only a dick would try to draw a comparison between the sound of his loud exhaust and the sounds of nature that the rest of us non-dick boaters enjoy so much.

Sorry, but in this argument you lose.

I bought my boat in Virgina Beach from Browning Marine. It came from the factory like that and I bought it off of the showroom floor. When I was at several hang outs on the Chesapeake where others had thru hull we were all loud. When I was doing a lunch run over to Bay Creek resort in Cape Charles it was off.

This is from the VA DGIF.

The exhaust of an internal combustion engine on any motorboat shall be effectively muffled. The muffling device shall exhaust at or below the water line or it shall be equipped with mechanical baffles. The use of cutouts is prohibited.

Using the cutout is prohibited, not having them. Did I use them, yes. I have also been checked with the exhaust open for safety gear and nothing was ever said about it. Have you heard of Jammin on the James, The Smith Lake Boating Association, Power Boating for the Cure? All of these are boating clubs or poker runs with high performance boats with thru hull exhaust and in Virgina.

Some may want bigger badder etc in Texas, but I have also towed in several very unprepared boaters in Virgina when many did not even stop to help.

You can dislike my exhaust all you want. That is your right. It is also my right to use my boat how I see fit. And it is my right for it to sound like I want it to. I also see fit to not infringe on the rights of others peoples peace and quiet. But you would not know that due to assumptions.

I hope you enjoy yourself on the water. I know I will and I really dont care what kind of boat you have, how much it costs, how big it is or anything like that. I dont even care if you have a quiet boat. It is about getting out on the water and enjoying life. All boats are welcome to come along side and tie up in my book.

I have not lost anything. I like being on the water and the peace and solitude as well. Sometimes I like to hear my boat rumble. My choice. By you and others making assumptions about others you lose. In my opinion you are a dick for acting like you are above others with your remarks. I hope you are all nice in cozy in your big boat at night. What are you compensating for?

I was thinking about putting 2 thru hull fart cans on my little tug.

Redhorse, you just made my point perfectly....you criticize people about making assumptions, then you make one about me. Well done, my friend.

For the record....I'm glad you're in TX. "The bigger the belt buckle, the smaller the dick."
For the record #2....my "big boat" (your terminology) isn't noisy so it doesn't disturb anyone on the water, and I'm not compensating for anything by having it. It just suits our way of boating, which by the way, is done very quietly.

And now, that having been said, I'm outa here. Oh, one final thought....if you find yourself having to defend yourself and your loud boat, it may be that you are in the minority. If that's the case, a bit of self-examination might be in order to see if your priorities might be misaligned.

Adios, mi amigo.

And you all are making my point as well. I am just doing as you are.

Yall all have a great day.

Did you get those off a honda crx?

Blaster No, I snagged that pic off the internet.
I was only joking to lighten the mood & name calling in this thread. :smt021

I'm just here for the free beer...... Carry'on and have fun.

This is ALMOST as entertaining as another... "is it safe to run a honda genny in the cabin if i have the windows open" .. topic

;)

IMHO loud engines are for motorcycles and race tracks. The po-po here gives citations for the loud engines violating the noise laws (same citation a car gets).
Another peeve... the blasting stereo's .. they are fine... but Its probably safe to say you and your friends are the only ones who what to hear Rap that loud on a Saturday afternoon.

hmmm interesting thread. so if you guys all love the sound of quiet so much why is it that you all don't own a sailboat?

:grin:j/k
okay well I guess I'm a total dick I actually pulled my leaking mufflers and run straight pipes on the 22 and even worse I love the beautiful lopey cammed sound. now I try my best to be as courteous as I can, I don't run it at the dock or beach for 20 minutes just to show off or anything.
funny though I do get alot of looks in the Pachanga I figured most of it was admiration or envy...but I guess not. I know I'm terrible, I forget we now live in a society where muscle cars are stupid and Hybrids are cool. oh well...you can call me a dick all you guys want I don't care I'll still share the beer......although I may run the engine while you drink it just cause:grin:
