While I am waiting for my smart tabs to come in I was looking at prop options and I came upon a company that sells adjustable pitch props. Now I know that nothing beats a high 5 stainless steel prop from Mercury but I don't want to spend 600 bucks on something that might or might not work for me not to mention that I am a new boat owner and I would hate to put a 600 prop into a rock and end up buying a new prop and outdrive.

What I really want to know is if anyone else has experimented with an adjustable pitch composite prop and if they had any luck. The one I was looking at for my 2001 Sea Ray 185 Bow Rider was adjustable from 15 to 21, I think. Its a four blade and only $130 or so with my military discount.

What do you guys thing, worth that risk or just bite the bullet and shell out 600 for a high five?

Buy the High Five and you'll be happy with it. I've owned 3 high fives and swear by them for your side boat. I tested the switch pitch prop Merc put out briefly in the early 90s. It was crap was hard to dial in to work as advertised. They (Merc) abandoned the idea.

X2 on the Ebay used high five. I have had four high fives and have paid from $150 to $275. I would suggest the 19P for your boat if you are into water sports. Oh yeah, I just ran my 17P high five into the ground two weeks ago to the tune of $160 to fix. If that is a big consideration for you then I would suggest to get a low deductable for your insurance and then if you have a collision, the insurance will cover it. If you are not heavy duty into waterwports, I would suggest the 21P.
