My boat needs trim tabs and I'm wondering who has installed them and who's tabs are the best for the money. This will be one of many winter projects for the boat. Thanks in advance.

Can't go wrong with Bennett. Lenco makes a nice electric set-up, which translates into an easier install. They're pretty stout.

Install is not really, hard - depends on the access you have to the transom wall - especially if doing Bennett (hydraulic).

I did it on my 215EC in about 4 hours. That was the Bennett system - about 4 years ago. If I had to do it again, I would seriously consider the Lenco.

Just make sure there is nothing on the inside of the transom wall before you start drilling.

The plumbing for the Bennett tabs was my only concern. How much easier are the Lenco's to install?

The Bennett's aren't "hard" - it depends on your skill set. But there is certainly more work to be done up against the inside of the transom wall. But there is no plumbing at all for the Lenco's. They're self contained.

Take a look at their website, you can probably download an instruction manual.

Have the factory hydraulic tabs on my 260 of course, but I did install Lenco electric Tabs on my Boston Whaler Center Console. The installation was very easy - took me only a couple of hours to mount the tabs, run the electrical and mount the control switch on my console. They work great. They use an internal screw shaft design that keeps the tab in whatever position you set it very well. One thing I like a lot about these tabs is that when you turn off the ignition, the tabs automatically reset to the full up (non-deployed) position.

I'm very mechanically inclined, but self contained sounds good to me. So they basically use a jack screw to actuate the tabs...I'll go to the site and check them out.

That sounds great! I like the fact that they retract once you turn off the ignition. These sound like the way to go. I'm removing my speedometer and transom mounted transducer and I plan to use those holes for the wiring of the tabs...
