Adding more chain- will it help?

Good timing on this thread, I am contemplating adding 100' more chain to my boat. I don't have problems with bow rise but do run "full" tab all the time as that is where the boat cruises fastest. I too thought I may be able to gain some efficiency by not dragging the tabs, how will more weight up front affect the 380?

I don't know if this fits, but you can't make a hog run like a race horse..................

Sea Ray just built some boats that, short of adding mega horsepower, you are not going to change their physical characteristics enough to get them to perform. Enjoy them as they are or go boat shopping.

Notice please, that I was careful not to address this comment to anyone in particular.

I do believe, however, that getting any stern lift at all will help the running angle and time to plane on the diesel 390EC's.

OK, if adding chain for whatever reason.... How do you connect it to the existing chain and still get it to go thru the gypsy head without binding....?

I just asked Imtra that question as I'm thinking about converting to all chain and was hoping to utilize the existing chain. The short answer at least for the windlass on our 280 is 'you don't'. The tolerances on the gypsy do not allow for an odd sized connector link.

Although I didn't ask the question, I suppose that you could use 2-3 feet of nylon 3 braid in the correct size with tapered splices. But since I'm considering all chain because I am tired of having to go out on the bow to manually yank the rode to get the chain to engage, this may not be a good long term solution.
