first are washdown pumps different from the regular water pump i already have? mine is a 2.8 gpm. i was thinking of going to like a 5gpm or something around there to be able to get good pressure to the spigot in the transom locker for a washdown hose. now, on a "washdown" pump, it goes by psi not gpm. so my question is will a 5 or 7 gpm pump work for the washdown and not hurt any other things like the sinks, shower, fittings, or do i have to install a separate washdown pump dedicated to that spigot with its own feed and switch?

I want to install a separate thru-hull for a lake water washdown for washing the swim platform and rinsing the anchor and chain. save that fresh water. Get the highest volume pump you can power and fit in. MM

I installed a separate pump, used a line from the a/c thru-hull, and ran it to the spigot in the transom locker. Of course I do not use the washdown when using the air... Now if you are on the ocean side, I cannot see using seawater for a washdown...

so im still asking if i can replace my standard water pump with a washdown pump? meaning the shower and sinks would be fed by a 5 gpm washdown high psi pump.

Yes, you can. Just be mindfull of the pressure setting. I wouldn't exceed about 40 psi to avaoid springing a leak elsewhere inside the boat.
