Hi,
Anyone out there with a 210 Sundeck/5.7EFI & still have access to it? Mine is an '01.
I recently bought a used 18484A3 cover for the flame arrestor. Installed the cover using the factory hole & the engine access cover hits the forward edge, pushing it down. Transition point from seat to backrest is where I'm getting the interference.
I'm looking for a measurement from the forward edge of the cover to the factory mounting hole on your set-up.
I'll then either start looking for another cover or possibly modify what I have.

Thank You.

Steve...i hate to ask the obvious but does the cover you bought look like this one?....i got the pic from the internet off of another 2001 210 sundeck...i know this is a 5.0 where yours is a 5.7 but i thought the cover may be the same..

you don't have any kind of spacer under the TBI do you...i had an old '91 firebird with TBI and i put a 1" spacer under it to keep the fuel a little cooler...don't think it really helped all that much though...

No spacer that I can see evidence of. Outline of the underside raised section is imprinted/scuffed onto the flame arrestor.
Starting to think about it "may/may not" have been a factory design glitch. Maybe that's why the cover is gone. Repeated open/close & engine vibrations while running may have broken the cover?
I've seen stranger things.

Cliff,
I've seen some good results putting a spacer under a Q-Jet. Believe it did double duty, allowed some cooling & better air/fuel mix before entering the intake plenums. I keep my old Buick bone stock as possible. That said, I can still get a tire to bark on the 1-2 shift.

Not sure how to do that in a boat.............yet.

my boat will 'pop a wheelie' when it takes off from a dead stop....:wow:

As a follow-up to this thread, has anyone been successful in modifying the older-style 5.0/5.7 EFI flame arrestor cover (Mercruiser # 18484A3) to eliminate the interference with the aft seat / access cover. It is obviously an design oversight by Sea Ray / Brunswick. Mine has so much interference that the bench seat / access cover will not seat fully against the molded fiberglass in the "down" position. It is sort of floating on the forward edge of the flame arrestor cover. The plastic around the screw joint is also cracked from this stress. I was considering modifying my cover, or trying a newer cover for the MPI series ($75!).

Any advice would be appreciated!

I drilled a new hole a couple inches forward of the factory hole. Used a black plastic automotive clip to fill in the old & cut it short on the underside. Flame arrestor still covered, no more interference with the engine cover/seat, looks OK as the black clip blends with the black cover.
