i'm well aware of the adventure that is LBI to AC and how important the tides and wind are to keeping a boat afloat. but does anyone have any experience with the run from AC to Great egg inlet on the inside. on the outside, this run is approximately 13 miles(accordin to the chartplotter) and on the inside (using the mile-markers along the ICW) it is 15 miles. is it well marked, is it ripe for groundings, shoaled in, un-navigable?? anyone have any idea?

Ron, we've done the run several times with only 1 close call (shoaling). You'll have a couple of bridges (Dorset Ave and Albany Ave) in Margate which go up every 30 mins I believe. The run is clearly marked and maps are generally accurate. The run from AC down to the first bridge (Albany Ave) is particularly nice as there are usually not too many boats on those waters.

Be on the watch for shoaling around.

N39 19.539 W 74 31.249

If it is low tide, I would slow-up near those coords and see where other boats go before venturing through.

At marker 230, the ICW makes a dog leg North. I would bypass the ICW there and continue strainght through the GE inlet and reconnect in SomersPoint after crossing the Longport Bridge. It may be a bit rough but lots of water.

Be aware that it has taken me as much as 1.5 hours to make this run because of those bridges. I usually go on the outside for a 30 minute run.

Did you get lined up with a slip at All Seasons?

gerry
i just printed out your post and will take it with me! i am only planning on staying inside if the weather is disagreeable but since that is always a possibility, i thought "local knowledge" would be helpful.

we did get slips at all-seasons. too many variables and too little committment from seaview harbor, unfortunately. we're renting a car anyway so we'll be spending little time (other than sleeping) at the marina.

thanks for the info!!

Unless forced by weather, why run inside? Great Egg is a relatively reliable inlet. Don't cut inside the safe-water bell, then follow the markers right in.

Why deal with the narrow ICW channel with no water outside the markers, all manner of johnboats fishing in the channel, greenflies the size of a small bird, etc?

Gerry:

In a past travel, back a few years, we got stuck at the railroad bridge behind the Borgata for about an hour waiting for the tender to get back to his post....we had to call the telelphone number posted on the bridge...no one answered on the vhf.

A buddy of mine whose home dock is Farley's in AC has told me of other horror stories wth getting that bridge opened. Have you had any experience/difficulty with contacting that bridge tender?
