The Air conditioner sea strainer on my 280 sundancer ( 2005) is leaking and when I tighten the little bolts, it leaks more ( just a steady drip) it appears to have a clear plastic bowl screwed into a brass fitting. anybody know were I can get a new seal or what I can use to repair?
Thanks mike in Pittsburgh

Your rubber gasket may be split or not making proper contact. Look under the top brass cover.i *think* West Marine carries them. Might be easy to check at a home depot or lowes too to see if they carry something close enough to use.

Thanks do you know where the sea Cock on the 280 is located? I would like to turn it closed before I fiddle with taking off the bolts on the strainer bowl

ABSOLUTELY shut the seacock first whenever doing anything on the strainer. Follow the tubes that run into the strainer - one of them MUST lead to a seacock. Not sure of what year 280 you have but mine is about a foot away from the strainer, forward and below.

mine is a 2005 w/ twin engines. There is a red pump motor forward of the strainer but i did not see the sea cock, space very tight and hot in the bildge.

Here is where our AC seacock is. I would imagine yours would be close as Sea Ray reinforced the hull for these points.

If you have a factory setup, it should be in this location.

Looking back on Henry's pic, you can see the mount location for twins.

Thank yo all this was very helpful, I will shut of the valve then fix the leak. you guys are great, this is my first use of the forum and it is a huge benefit! taking the boat to my dealer ( my next step) would have ment a whole day and several hundred dollars o doubt.

I couldn't find (OK, I didn't really feel like taking the time to look) a new gasket for my Perko strainer, so I went to Auto-Zone and bought a sheet of cork gasket material and cut my own. Cost a couple of bucks...and the stuff is handy to keep around for quick fixes like this.

Groco you can order direct from them. I did that to make caps for winterizing.
