Have a 2000 amberjack 290 and first time I am trying to use the AC since i bought it. I put a hose in the sea strainer, the one more aft that goes to the pump. The AC turns in and i feel the pump running but i don't see any water coming out of the boat. You know where the AC drains overboard? Dim2t want to keep running it at risk of burning it up, i only ran it for about 30 secinds

I assume you're on a trailer and that's why you're using a hose, rather than opening the seacock and using the water you're sitting in? Either way, it might just be an air lock. Backflush it with the hose through the exit thru-hull on the side of the hull.

Keep in mind the AC pumps are not self priming like the engine pumps. It may take some help to get the line primed. I use a funnel called Sea Flush with their snorkel tube to flush the system when i cannot get it to prime.

On the 280 the outlet is located right at the ac unit. The sea cock is literally beside the unit. Look at the picture in KevinC’s previous post. That stream of water is probably his ac.

You can also back flush the system as the ac pump impeller is attached to the motor by a magnetic clutch. Stick a hose in the outlet and blow water back into the system.

Where we are there is a lot of little debris in the water, sea weed, leaves, candy wrappers etc. I have always had to clean the strainers on both boats every three weeks or so. The 280 wasn’t too bad, but the Sabre has to primed every time the ac strainer plugs up.

Yeah it's on trailer. Ok so it can be back flushed to prime it. Just need to know what outlet it is in the hull? Can't really trace them backwards.

Find the ac unit. On the 280 it’s under the aft port side Galley seat. On the 280, the exit sea cock was under the seat as well right beside the ac unit.

You can also use the back flush method to run antifreeze through the ac system during winterization.
