Greetings!

Considering purchasing my first Sea Ray. My name is Craig and I reside in Florida. I recently sold my jet boat and am looking for a small bow rider to keep the family out on the water. I believe I found a good candidate. What I am seriously considering is a 2007 Sea Ray 185 Sport. This boat is in "like new" condition and has 75 hours on it. Power is from the 3.0 Liter Merc package.

This boat is about the largest I can comfortably fit in my garage where it must be stored(subdivision covenance). My Hyundai Veracruz has a 3500 pound tow rating and while this boat will approach that I think I can do it fine(my 2007 Seadoo Utopia 205 weighed about the same).

I do not want to turn this into a 3 liter Vs. 4.3 liter thread. I will make the determination if the 3 liter is acceptable to me as this is a subjective decision.

What I would like to know is if the selling price of $13,900 is reasonable for this boat and Galvanized trailer?

Thanks in advance.
Craig

I just paid (last week) $13,500 for the exact boat with only 48 hours on it. So, just based on my purchase, you're in the ballpark.

AR,

Thanks for your reply. How are you enjoying your 185 so far? has it turned out to be what you expected?

BTW, the boat we're considering also comes with a Brunswick warranty till 2013. Are you familiar with these warranties?

Craig

That seems like a fair price plus you can't go wrong with the 185 Sport in my opinion. The 185 Sport, 240 SD and the 280 DA have been Sea Ray's best sellers year after year. While this is the last model year for the 240's and 280's, the 185 will continue.

Nice looking ride....go for it.

Tomorrow, I will have owned the boat an entire week. We took it out two days last weekend and enjoyed it very much. This boat drives so smooth it's like driving a car.

I usually do not buy extended warranties. However, this being my first powerboat, I bought the Brunswick extended warranty.

Do you ever let hem come back to land?:smt001

J/K: Congrats on the new boat! That 185 has a great hull under it - it's amazing how well it performs with the 3.0L. Good boat, good engine. Welcome to the forum!

I have a 2005 185 Sport with the 4.3. The only aaddition is a Hydrofoil to keep the bow down. My wife and I and 2 kids (6 and 9) love it. We have used it on the Ohio river, lakes, and the intercoastal in St Pete. We have ventured into Tampa bay (See Anna Maria thread in Southeast section). It is a little small for the bay (impossible if the water has more than light chop). Our only real complaint is a lack of head for the girls. We have 170 hrs on it so far. The only problems we have had were the speedo not working (easily fixed) and a bunk of the trailer broke (another easy fix). We started out towing it with our Dodge Grand Caravan (locally, less than 100 miles) which had a 3000 lb tow rating. It did have a reese hitch and trans cooler. It pulled very easily, but I never pushed it too much. We stepped up to a Chrysler Aspen which has a 8900 lb tow rating. This is what we used to pull from Ky to Fla no problem. Hope this helps!

We have a 185Sport with the 4.3. While the motors are different I think you will be fine with the 3.0.

The boat does drive like a car and can take some decent wave action ( 4-5ft at times). I use a 2500 to tow ours, so that's not much help.

Mine is great, the Merc engines are strong, people always comment on how "pretty" Sea Rays are.

Congrats on your new boat! I have the 195 Sport (owned since April), It's mainly used for wakedboarding. My friends and I are all big guys (200+) and it pulls us right out of the water. I live in SW Florida so as far as I know it's never seen fresh water. So far, other tha a cple minor maint issues it's ran great!
