Hello all,

I'm somewhat new to the site and have been hesiant in writing my introduction. A few of you may have seen me poking around, but I did just join as I just got my 1988 268 Sundancer...back?

In Aug. of 88 my father bought our boat the Blew By You from Southwest Marine, Page AZ brand new. I grew up with this boat and conseqently spured my love for boating, but also a niche for the classics.

5 Years ago to my dismay, my father sold her when I was going off to school. Partially to spite me for leaving home to go to school and work in the marine industry, but also because he looked at it as his toy and nobody else was allowed to use it. So much to the point that he would rather sell it than see any of the immediate family with it. My father is a very maticulous person, so much to the point I would call it OCD...I may have inherited some of it. The boat was always maticulously maintained, dry/Indoor storage for the life of the boat....and he sold it.

2 Months ago I was on craiglist just browsing boats, not anyone in paticular and to my surprise I found this 88 268 that looked like her. I inquired on the ad and sure enough it was the Blew By You. I explained the story to the guy and he was very kind and said he would hold it until/if I could raise the funds to pay for the boat. The bank came through and she is mine again. :smt038

My father found out and thinks I am an idiot for buying it back, and said the happiest day of his life was when he sold it...It was my worst.:smt089

However as fate would have it, I'm happy again and I introduce to you the Blew By You! In the 5 years she has been out of my life she was slightly neglected, but there isn't anything I can't fix! All my friends give me crap for buying something like this at my age instead of a wakeboard/ski boat or something like that, but this is something I want to keep for a very long time!

Cheers!

Holy cow man, What a great story. There's no amount of money that can replace the time you had with it as a kid and now you can share it with your friends and family (don't know if you have yet). You can find folks your age all over the water in ski boats but chick love lazing about on a cruiser too.

Remember the story of the old bull and the young bull? Old bulls rule!!!

Way to go! Congratulations on getting her back!

So how is dad handling the fact that you are cruising around in his boat? She's a beaut, BTW. You made the right choice.

Wow, Great story & Great Boat!! Congratulations!!! I had a '79 260 DA that I bought when I was 23 y/o. Let me tell you, the ladies love having a head! I spent many a night docked or anchored over at Fire Island with different women and they all loved the boat! Good Luck with her!

Very cool. Take the Old man out, hand him a beer and telll him to keep his feet off of your vinyl.

You did an act of love buying her back! :smt038:smt038:smt038

...because... they are not just a thing!!!

Great Story, I wish my dad had bought a boat back in the day. I would have it today.
I need a better job !! I need to upgrade. shhh don't tell my wife.

Great story and congrats on finding your "old" friend again!

Dad can't say much because it ain't his boat! He got rid of "His" boat and I bought "MY" boat back.

I think it was hard for him to ever really enjoy the boat because he was so scared something was going to happen to it, but if you never use it how can you ever enjoy it? I don't think he ever understood the whole, "A boat is Labor of Love" saying. He used to pull the boat with a 1993 CHev SUburban with a 454, which he still has, and only has 35,000 miles on it. You could take a white glove to the underside and would be clean.

Did I mention she only has 350 Hours on her? The genset only has somewher around 120 hours.

SHe has been sold twice since my Dad last owned her in the 5 years, and it would seem niether of the owners ran it much. Most Arizona boaters don't go out to much because you have to drive to all of the Water sources and they are usually crowded and the longest lake is like 40 miles...Unless you are going to Lake Powell (My fav place)!

ANyway, Thanks for the support and the compliments!

I would, but he actualy doesn't drink. Which I don't understand entirely why he bought a boat, because boating and drinking goes hand in hand ;) Only when anchored!

Great story and a great choice in boats! When the ski boats are headed home for the day and you are anchored in a secluded cove THAT'S when the fun starts! Oh to be young and single WITH a cruiser!!

Well enjoy the time with him anyway.

Ditto on the great story. I think your friends are jealous! That is a beautiful boat and I hope you get many years of enjoyment out of her.
