If a boat had inadvertently got into shallow water and scratched the original factory gel coat, can it be repaired.

By repaired, I mean as good as new?

Also, does anyone have a good way to get the old name off a boat?

thanks

Generally scratched gel coat issues are above the water line and they can be repaired as good as new. Although I have seen repairs that become visible with time as the sun ages the new vs old gel coat. Your post states that the boat ran aground. That can also be repaired, but depending on how bad the damage is, it raises questions about structural damage and water seeping behind the gel coat. Post a picture of the damage and you will get plenty of informed opinions on how to handle it.

As for getting a name off the boat, there are plenty of threads on that. This is a recent one.

It was not a grounding

The boat was not really grounded. In South Florida there are a lot of places which are shallow and sand, or marsh grass.

I ran into some marsh grass and was able by trimming the motor up to get out myself.

There were no visible scratches above or beneathe the water line, but I am concerned for the future.

Not too long after we purchased our Sundeck I noticed some blistering on our hull. It looked as though we had run aground even though I knew we hadn't. It was under warranty so I took it back to our dealer. You can't tell it was ever repaired.
