I am going to purchase a cockpit cover for my boat from Great Lakes. The boat never had a cockpit cover, so I don't know how the factory had the cover attach at the windows.

My questions:

How does the cockpit cover attach at the front and side windows (Does it use the tupperware style rubber into the guide channel like the camper top or use snaps)?

If the cover uses snaps at the windows, are the snaps set into the fiberglass around the windows, or are they set into to the lower metal part of the window frames?

I assume that the rear sides and bottom of the cover use the same snap locations as the slant back curtain (that attaches to the bimini). Is this right?

I have installed a few camper canvas sets before so I know how to set snaps into canvas and fiberglass, I just want to get an idea of what kind of job I am getting myself into before I place the order.

I am assuming that you mean a mooring cover. The mooring cover goes over, and covers, the windshield. The snaps are all placed in the fiberglass below the windshield and then all around the boat.

If you are ordering from Great Lakes, the cover will come as a blank with no snaps. You have to install the snaps on the canvas and on the boat. They do provide you with a bag of snaps, and I suggest you buy their snap tool.

I believe great lakes does call that a cockpit cover. A mooring cover is more of a storage cover that covers the bow and transom to the gunwhales. Not typical for a cruiser.

But yes, they use snaps in the fiberglass around the base of the windshield. Something i want to add but cant bring myself to adding all those snaps and messing up the clean look. Gonna have a custom one made to use the snaps on the frame along the top. Ive seen GL make this style as an option on newer 310 and 330 but they wont do it for mine.

In had a local company make mine. Best thing about it is that we added a zipper with velco flap that goes from the transom door all the way to the cabin door. This allows easy access inside or the cabin when you want access without unsnapping anything. Can't tell you how many times I have it all buttoned up and realize I have left my car keys or phone inside.
