I had gone over to chat with a buddy for a few minutes on another dock on Saturday when I heard a loud crash from my dock. Then another crash and again another crash. Then I hear that one of our dock mates is in trouble. I immediately jump off my buddies boat and head back to my dock. When I get to my dock my wife is on a friends boat holding our 1 month old grandson and crying. She proceeds to tell me our boat is ruined and probably going to sink. At that point my only concern was my wife's and grandsons safety. I am happy to say that everyone was fine. My boat wasn't destroyed or sinking.

Turns out that our friend that owns a 55' house boat caught the wind and blew up against our boats anchor and hit pretty hard. Then he panicked and put it into forward and hit the throttles again and hooked my anchor through his window and slammed my boat hard against the docks port side. Then he hit the throttles again and hit my boat yet again put the anchor through another one of his windows. And slammed my boat into the docks starboard.

The damage to my boat doesn't look to bad. The anchor is twisted pretty bad, the pulpit rub rail and around the gel coat is beat to hell, took a chunk out of the gel coat about an inch on the port side, crack on the swim platform and most concerning is a crack I found at the port side rear at the transome. I didn't see it happen. However, from everyone's account of it. My boat was hit 3 times real bad and everyone expected a lot of damage. I am going to make sure the insurance company pulls the boat and have it checked thoroughly for damage. I am probably going to demand that they replace the windless. It was working perfect on Friday then Sunday it almost felt like it was binding up. Oh yea even the support on the dock is bent all to hell.

Steve

He has full insurance and has allready contacted them with the claim.

Sorry to hear it , glad no one was hurt.

What a shame! Over reaction can cause more damage than just staying put and checking out the situation. Pushing off by hand is always better than power when possible, Mike.

Geese... I'm glad that no one was injured. Boats can be fixed people are hard to replace... hope all is well.

Glad to hear nobody was hurt. Like others have said, boats can be fixed or replace....people are much harder to fix and impossible to replace. Just keeping things in perspective here.

I went through a battle with an insurance company a few years ago when a drunk boater totaled my 330 Sundancer. I learned a lot about dealing with the insurance company and would share much of that with you if you want. PM me and we can chat.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully I won't have any issues with the insurance company, they are going to have to pull the boat and have the hull surveyed. I just want to make darn sure the damage is all cosmetic. The windless sure took a beating. I wonder what the stance in some of this stuff is going to be.

Should be interesting

Steve I hate to ask but where are the pictures?

I realize its like a slow motion train wreck but people still have to watch. Hope it all comes out OK for you man what a bumber

Sorry to hear about your boat, but glad everyone is fine. I like to pass along these type of stories to my wife, who had never boated in her past, until I pulled her in to the mix. Good reminders of what happens when people panic. I had been out of boating for 20 years, when we got back in a few years ago. I am constantly practicing tight space maneuvers, formulating back up plans, etc. But, i also realize things sometimes happen, even with our best intentions, and that is the nature of boating.

I am glade your family is all well. Sorry to here about your 500DA. Sounds like all will be covered and will settle out well. One more reson not to own a house boat!
