The Admiral and I went up the Columbia today to the mouth of the Lewis river for a little fishing. Saw a few caught but it was slow. While we were there we saw a guy with a SR. He told us he bought it new in 1989. What a nice looking boat.
I also discovered folks around here use sea anchors to keep the swing down when you are anchored in rivers. Most of the time they have one out on each side of the stern. So I got one and they work great!!
Then over the VHF there was a call to the Portland USCG. The 679 foot Pacific Flores went aground across from the Kalama marina. As we were coming back they were taking out the "marine investigator" out to the ship.
The Columbia is amazing. We were 100 miles from the mouth of the Columbia, yet the tide affected the river that far. As it approached high tide on the coast, the river was backed up clear where we were. I am told it affects the river clear up to the first dam, Bonneville Dam!
There are also seals and sea lions in the river. I was told that if I hook a fish to reel it in sitting down as the seals will notice you standing, or a net in the air and will come right to your boat and steal your fish! 100 miles from the ocean!
