I have a Cruisair, 10000BTU a/c unit on my '89 280, with a model number of: EB010.

Does anyone have an owners manual for this unit? I tried contacting Cruisair but they don't seem to want to help.

I'd like to see if they had winterization instructions in it.

Thanks,
Steve

Usually, you just pull the hose at the strainer and stick it in a bucket of RV antifreeze and turn on the A/C and let it suck antifreeze into the system until it spits antifreeze.

Steve.............you can download a whole bunch of information from Cruiseaire's web site too. Maybe the information you are looking for is there. Here is the link to Cruiseairs page with all the downloadable pdfs http://www.cruisair.com/selfremote.html

But Skolbe is essentially correct on how you winterize based on what I was told by the tech that explained everything to me when I took delivery of my boat.

Steve: Skolbe is right on  , very easy to winterize a/c units. Don't forget pour some pink antifreeze in units pan so that you get antifreeze into condensation lines. Also I spray my entire units with WD 40.

it's tricky because those a/c pumps lose prime pretty quickly. :smt013 then they dont pump anything at all. they are not lift pumps - ie: they dont have rubber impellers. so you can get fluids past the pump without running the pump. this surprised me when i was winterizing last week... i filled a 5 gallon bucket with pink stuff, connected the bucket to the strainer with a thoroflush type adapter and garden hose, then put the bucket on the flybridge, the pressure created by elevating the bucket 10 feet above the strainer got pink to run through the entire system and out the overboard discharges (both of them). i still ran both a/c units just to be sure, but i think the pink found its way through all the innards of both a/c units despite the units not being turned on.

Mine wouldn't prime even with a flooded suction on the inlet of the strainer. I had to bypass the strainer to prime it...

rondds, that is way to much to go through. I simply drain the srainer, remove the hose from the intake to the pump, use canned air to blow out lines fill with 1 qt of red pop and canned air blow that through, done. Don't even need a full gallon of antifreeze.

Brad - This might sound stupid, but I wouldn't sleep well during a -30 degree winter night knowing I didn't pump atleast a gallon through the gen and ac!

Well if it makes you sleep better then it's worth it. When I winterize a boat like yours it takes 2 gallon of blue antifreeze mixed 50/50 (giving 4) for each engine. 1/2 gallon goes through the genset, up to 1/2 gallon in air system(single air cond.) 1/2 gallon of red will winterize entire plumbing system and 1 gallon red through the toilet to holding tank.

We do hundreds of differnet boats annually and have for years. I understand some of the guys like to fiddle with there boats. I'm trying to help the guys who don't have the time, save a buck and do it properly, quickly. A 35 ft boat should take no more than 1 hr to change oil and winterize complete.

This is from the manual online - It almost sounds too simple! Come to think of it though, there is an inlet at the bottom of each unit which should drain everything by gravity:

"Winterizing the System: Close the seacock and remove the inlet water hose from the air conditioner. Allow all water to drain from the system. Loosen the screws on the pump head to allow the water to drain from the pump. Drain and clean the seawater strainer."

I just did mine this afternoon. I removed the intake hose from the through hull valve. I inserted a funnel into that hose and turned the A/C on while pouring 2 gal of antifreeze thru. I know I dont need all that, but I am kinda that way. Better safe than sorry.
