Does anyone know if the older R12 refrigerant can be changed over to R34 like an automobile can ?I think mine needs a bit of a charge its not as cold as i think it should be.It also takes a while to produce heat so mabey i need a new controler.

If you mean R134A the short answer is no. The new refrigerant blends do not mix well with mineral oil, which is what the R22 and R12 units use. There are other complications as well like pressure ratings for lines and hoses as well as incompatibility of metering devices and pressure controls.
You need to find someone who has access to R12 and is capable of properly pressure testing, evacuating, and recharging your system.
The other option is to install a new replacement unit.

Thanks i will have it looked at i was just curious .My gf wont let me run a/c much anyway but the heat she loves in the morning.

Out of curiosity, What is in the A/C system R-12 or R-22? I was under the impression that most boat A/C systems are sealed units that are replaced as a unit. If that is indeed the case you would only be able to charge if you cut and soldered a charge port in the line.

Ill try to remember to look tomorrow as i will be up to the boat having a insurance survey done and having her lifted so i can run the trailor around the corner to have it weighed for licensing.
