i have a 37' sedan bridge with a Cruise Air system. when i first bought the boat [2011] i noticed that the salon unit would freeze up. i investigated and found that it is installed under the seating against the hull of the boat. the coils were facing the hull with less than 2" of clearence to the coils. i reversed the unit so that you can see the coils/filter from the vent installed in the bottom of the seating. While i was doing this, i noticed that the coils were extremely dirty. I cleaned them using a soft bush, then used a commercial hvac cleaner. they appeared to be clean, and i also had the unit checked for leaks; none found and everything was as it should be. The unit still freezes up after the retrofit and systems check. Should i remove the unit from the boat and throughly clean the coils, or might there be some other issue?

I always thought that the unit freezing was caused by low freon?

My previous boat was a 1995 34 Silverton MY. I had the same issue in my salon. I had it checked, etc. Ultimately mine was because the salon is all windows and the unit can't keep up, and runs non-stop esp on 90+ degree days.
I was told to change the fan setting from auto to hi so it runs continously on hi keeping the air circulated through the unit. I also had to set the temp higher in the salon so it would cycle more. That seemed to help. At the time the boat was built that was the biggest unit made, and they now make larger ones. A larger unit may help as well, but costly.

You are correct, but that is only one reason. I have had this checked out, due to the amount of windows, lack of insulation, the unit may not be able to keep up.
