My kids tell me about these hot cars they have today. Back in the day you could haul 6 people with the AC on and still get 140mph out of a big block 460.
As for who tows with a car, just about everyone in the rest of the world. Pick ups and big SUV's are an American thing. The rest of the world still use one vehicle for everything.
