My boat is 1,000 miles from me, and I wish to buy two new Cutlass Bearings to take with me next time I go there.

Can someone tell me a part number or measurement of the bearings, and where do I buy them in the US and have them Fedexed out to me here in the UK.

Bost is a 1997 400 Sundancer with Cat diesels and, (I think) 1.75 inch shafts.

How much would I expect to pay per bearing?

Many thanks

Graham

If no one jumps in that knows for sure what you have, e-mail sea ray and they will tell you what were in it when it left the factory, or give you dimensions, (shaft, strut bore and length)

I researched this when I bought my boat a few years ago, for when the time comes.

Sea Ray told me I had Morse bearings, here's the link if it turns out that you have Morse also

I called Morse, and they gave me a few distributors. The one that I put in my file is Rose's Marine in Glauster, MA (877) 283-3334

Good Luck

Model Number Shaft Diameter (in.) 1 3/4
Outside Diameter (in.) 2 3/8
Length (in.) 7
Weight (lbs.) 2.3
Price $89.99

I purchased these two year ago from Deep Blue Yacht Supply...I could call to confirm.

Having second thoughts on OD...not 100% sure. So I called Deep Blue and confirmed the above size is correct...its model number BROW.
Best of luck in your change out.

Depends on what puller you use...if you get the correct puller, you can remove the cutlass with the shaft in place and just the prop removed. With the prop already off, it took about an hour per side. Remove the three small set screws and remove with puller...install is reverse. No heat was required and the set screws came right out.

Its an easy job.
Good Luck....

Sorry, new to the SR 400 DA; what is a cutlass bearing and how do you know if it 'goes out?' Thanks!

Replacing this bearing is best pushed out using a hydraulic press with the proper dies to press from the forward end of the bearing against the aft end strut. It takes longer to remove the prop and set up the press than it takes to press out the old bearing. The Press must be reconfigured to press in the new bearing. Yards have this equipment on hand to replace with the shaft in place can do the work in a fraction of the time a typical DIY owner can. You might be able to rent the press if they have the right dies.

I watched two workers change out mine in 2 1/2 hours.

While I know you have a vintage part, please note there are different qualities of bearing. With the spec sin hand you may want to shop this item for quality of materials and price. Why not check with our Host here on CSR, BOE

The original poster sold the boat....moving up I guess

The cutlass bearing is the bearing in your strut and is the prop shaft bearing surface.
