Hey guys just wondering about the Splashwell and transom heights on these boats. It is used in the ocean but sitting at the dock with motor up or down the boat sits at the bottom on the Splashwell holes. Just barely coming into the well. I’m wondering if this is normal. I do have it full of gas but other then that no extra weight worth mentioning. Is this normal.

Your well intake should be from the seacocks, not "splashwell" holes. Those are actually for bilge, deck, etc to get water off boat.

If those are underwater while running, you might be overweighted. Can you take a few pics?

I just restored a 91 21'1 from ground up....

Sorry I don’t have a picture. But like I said while sitting at the floating dock, regardless of engine position, the bottom of the well drain holes are on the water line. It has a 2006 Suzuki df150, I looked up the weight numbers compared to the original merc 150 2 stroke and the Suzuki is heavier but not by much, 40 lbs at the most. At cruising speed everything is fine.

See attached, how mine are placed, no change from factory.

Could also be a bilge issue. Is your bilge set on automatic? Is your float switch good?

How does the boat physically sit in the water? Meaning, forget about the motor well drains, for now. The boat should sit very close to level (check at the floor) - just a tad bow high. If that's how the boat sits, then all is good.

The bow is a tad high yes. This is an outboard engine as well not inboard. The bilge drain hole isn’t near the water. It’s the splash well drain holes. I will have to wait to check next year. I’m in newfoundland Canada and the weather is cold with snow in the forecast so I have the boat on a trailer with a cover on it.

OK, if it's just a tad high - basically at the point where it still feels like it's sitting "normal", then you're good. I wouldn't worry about the splashwell drains - if water comes in, it will go right back out again. The splashwell is still an "external" thing.

Check again on that auto bilge pump. I'm almost positive that the boat would have had that from the factory. But then... in a quarter century of "who knows how many previous owners"...

I know for two owners sense it came to Canada. God only knows how many owned it before that.

Found some photos I took after the first launch this summer

You're good. Although my neck is a little sore, now ;)

Yes sorry about that haha. Seems like a nice boat either way and my kid loves the Cuddy.

looks okay aside from "summer...." maybe all the clothes are causing the problem? :)

If you look at my new gel coat and the original laguna stripe, the original stripe gives the vessel the appearance of a higher bow. Also, there should be a float switch and bilge tucked way in the back.

if you are defining splashwell holes as on the transom, I know the center consoles do not have any. the hull self bails, with the majority of water running from thru hulls off deck at the back of the port and starboard fish boxes.

Also, why worry, summer only comes to Canada a few days a year...will it sink in 48 hours? :)
Im in Newfoundland, we don’t get real seasons here lol. Maybe about 2-3 weeks in July are actually above 20°. This pic was probably in May lol. 5-10° maybe. With a wind chill as well lol.

fxnytro17.... I know exactly what "well holes" you are referring to and no, there really isn't that much concern with water there as opposed to other weight distributions factors that affect the ride. The holes you see on the outside, you also see them inside the well, and not even in the bilge. Water can come back, and forth through those holes with little concern other than ensuring the sealant is still working around the aluminium tube inserts, inside and out. Worse case, replace them. Yes, your four-stroke weighs more, probably more than 40 but you say she rides nice so that be that, just understand you may have altered the established water line, per factory specs. No big deal, we all have done it and made the thing run or work better. I have an 18 Laguna and do my best to remain factory configured throughout...ahhh, it's cause I am too lazy to change anything!

Water in the bilge, different story?

The bilge is dry.
I still find it weird how low the stern is in the water. Just seems low in general as well. But I’ve been doing some reading and that’s the boat style of the 90s it seems like. Either way it’s a nice boat.

I’d also like to keep it original for the most part. There used to be cushions on the port and stbd sides near the stern by the gunnels. I’ve been looking and can’t find parts of any kind.

Are you referring to cushions that you would sit on or coaming pads? Coaming pads can be found online/in stores/made. Cushions to sit on would be easiest sourced by having them made by a local upholsterer.
