Need some advice.

My 95 370 7.4 w/ V-drives does not have the conventional nut/locking nut I frequently find information about.
Rather, I have a large nut that has cotter pins holding it to a flange to keep it from moving.
I had gone to the store and picked up an adjustablre packing nut wrench, but it is too small ( to 3").

Can anyone advise the best tool to usde for this job? There is not a lot of room to get anything in there.

BTW, I am doing this to stop some excessive dripping (run actually).

Thanks,

-Al

Yes, I bought one just like it, but at a 3" opening it was still too small.
I need to know what size I really need. I saw on your link that there were different sizes, looking for a recommendation on the correct one for my application.

Thanks-

I never had good luck with the adjustable packing nut wrenches. Open them too wide and they get flimsy.......if they fit at all. I gave up and made a pair out of 3/8" aluminum flat stock. Just measure the nuts across the flats and cut the opening in your homemade version to fit.

Pipe wrenchescor large channel locks may work on Express Cruisers, but I suspect there isn't enough space under the engine on a DA.

Also, research to see if the packing nuts are "counter rotating". Otherwise, you'll spend lots of time trying to un-tighten a set that you inadvertently over tightened. Don't ask how I know this......
