Does anybody else have a 230 Sundancer? This is my first year with her and was wondering if anybody has some good experiences, helpful hints that sort of stuff? Thanks

I have a 1992 sundancer but I haven't gotten it wet yet. Right now it's getting a fresh coat of bottom paint and the stripes are getting redone at the water line. When it comes back I will let you know about the ups and downs that I find with it. (mostly ups I'm sure).

I have been trying to find an aft seat from a newer model but I am having no luck. I am going to fabricate my own but I have a question that you may be able to help with. How is the seat mounted to the transom so it can be flipped up for access to the engine compartment? Is it on a 'piano' hinge with foldable legs or does it come completeley off?
If you can help (because I believe your model has the aft seat the faces forward) I would greatly appreciate it. Any pics would also be a plus

I suggest reading the 220 DA thread. In 1990 the 230 was called a 220DA. You can see pictures of seat modifications. Two of us have done this.

Also--other great suggestions.

actually the 220da was renamed the 240da in 1992....the 230 is a different boat with a 8' beam vs the 220's 8.5' and is a bit shorter. The 230 has a similiar layout. Maybe you can find one for sale near you and go look at it.....good luck !

I downloaded the parts list for a 1994 230 Sundancer and everything is exactly the same as mine except for the addition of the rear seat. The pictures are too general so I can't get a good look at the way it's mounted.

The 230 doesn't have a high stern and the seat back has to be an extended bolster across 2/3 of the back. Right now I have both side bolsters and I am going to dis-assemble them and try and use both mounts to make one longer seat back. The only concern is how to mount the seat to the transom so it will be safe, and have easy access to the engine compartment.

By the way....... When is the sun comming out????

I've got a '93 230DA. That sounds like a neat idea but I too wonder how easy the engine hatch will be to pull out if there's a full-length seat running across the back. If you could design it to fold up tightly that might work. I don't know if your mounts for the little side seats are the same as mine, but I don't think mine would have a chance of holding up weight all the way across; I'd think you would surely need to add another mount in the middle to adequately brace the seat.

The best two things I've changed to mine are putting in a bigger SaniPotti and rigging up a couple of fans for the cabin to help keep it a little cooler a little longer into the summer. Those fans really help at night when we're sleeping in the cabin.

Go to yachtworld.com and do a search of the 1994 model. They did away with the 2 side triangular seats and made a bench for the back that folds up and has swingaway legs, That's what I'm shooting for.

I am picking up the boat tomorrow from the marina and I will be working on the seat next week. I will add pics as the project progresses

I got these stainless steel folding legs from West Marine...about $25.00 each...may work for you in your project.
