can a person ever find used extended swim platforms for these boats? I priced a new one thru fiberglass marine products, $3000. way too much money! any suggestions?

Call Scott at Swimplatforms.com. They really do make a great product. I just toured their facility today.

They made a platform for my dad's '81 260, and are now making a platform for my 260 (The guy I am selling it to wants the bigger platform).

Let me know what they quote..if you don't mind...thanks.

I received my quote. $1795, plus $98 for crating, $214 to ship by truck to KC area. $63 more to ship to resident. Nice, but I'm going to have to think hard about spending $2100. It weighs 150#, 400# including crate. It's 40" deep, with 28" of usable extension, the rest slides in under existing platform, and mounts to transom, and also up into the bottom of existing swim platform.

Quint4, they say most of the 400# is due to the wood crate. I don't know what is allowed on this site, if posting email accounts is allowed, I will forward the entire email to you, so you know all the particulars. Can I copy email & paste here? I don't know if allowed or if it would work. Do you do this thru private messages? Let me know how I can convey all the info to you easily. Changing directions, these are a big boat to trailer, I bought mine without a trailer, it has bottom paint & just stays in it's slip at marina. I talked to SeaRay customer service & they told me this boat weighs 6000# dry, I would guess 7000# loaded. Have you ever weighed yours on the trailer? How much do trailers weigh? My Velocity weighs 5600# (boat & trailer) what does yours weigh? How heavy of pickup do you pull with, how big of motor?

PM me the details on the platform please. Click on my name and follow it. I tow with a Chevy 2500 diesel. The boat is on a triple axle trailer. Most people do not trailer boats this big regularly but I find it easy with the right truck and trailer. I single hand it on and off the trailer...no problem.

Is that number with motors or just the hull?

I thought all the Searay weight specs were without power/outdrives.

I have no idea. I hadn't even considered the fact that the weight would be without engine. Does anybody else know? I told them what I had and that I was curious what it weighed, his reply was, The previous year without radar arch weighed 5800#, so we figured roughly 6000# with addition of radar arch. I will call Sea Ray customer service and ask them.

You are right. The weight is without the drivetrain. The big block weighs 800#, outdrive & prop, roughly 200#, so all told about a thousand pounds more with my setup. Thanks for the insight.

Thank for confirming those weight numbers.
I would assume that is without generator or A/C.

For those following the thread:

I found:

840lbs. for each 4.3 w/A1

1153lbs. for 7.4 w/B2

Those were the only power options Sea Ray offered on that boat at the time.

I have the 7.4 w/ Bravo 2, you found the weight to be 1150#, do you think that is more accurate than 1000# that Sea Ray told me? Also I have no generator, but I do have built in AC. thx

Here is one place I found the specs:
http://www.sterndrives.com/merc/74lmpiengine.html

The other place (I can't find, now) had Mercruiser specs which I compared with the Mercruiser site and were right on.

Unfortunately, the 7.4L is not available from Mercury so they do not list it.

I also found 137lbs for a B2 outdrive.

The bare 7.4L numbers I saw for remanufactured longbloacks were 850lbs or so. Of course, you would have to add the weight of the bellhousing, exh maniforlds, and accessories.

If a V-6 is 848; then 1150 or so for big block V-8 seems right if you want to look at it in an unscientific way.

Sounds logical to me. Have you ever weighed your boat & trailer? Probably 10000#'s, maybe?
No, I haven't.

I plan to weigh my boat/trailer this spring, just out of curiosity.

I run an all steel, triple axle trailer w/ torsion suspension and disc brakes on all 3 axles.

I would guess I'm right at 10,000lbs. (or a little over, loaded, w/ gas and water)

You will not be sorry if you add a swimplatform.com platform. Top notch company. I had one on my 93 290 and loved the additional space. Was able to store a cooler on the small section and the kids had plenty of room to swim from the extended platform without jumping on the outdrive. I towed with a 2500 Yukon XL from Canada to Maryland and enjoyed the boat a lot. I will dig up a photo and send it to you.
